    Workforce & Career Services creates hope and prepares people of all ages for more competitive jobs. Our customers want to identify more promising career paths that fit their skills and interests. We serve youth, veterans, migrants and seasonal farmworkers, low-income individuals, people experiencing homelessness, and other special populations.

    NATIONAL FARMWORKER JOBS PROGRAM

    Become self-sufficient during lean times.

    In partnership with the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP), Telamon provides services that educate, train, or prepare eligible farmworkers for other jobs. Our trained staff members work one on one with you to develop a plan to meet your needs and help you achieve your goals. The programs can help you identify career paths and assess your skills and interests.

    Services include:

    • Career counseling
    • Job and classroom training
    • Customized training programs
    • Remedial education and GED preparation
    • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
    • Skill upgrades and occupational credentialing
    • Job placement

    You can also turn to Telamon for help finding work through on-the-job training, local market information, and job placements. Bilingual services are available in many of our offices.

    The U.S. Department of Labor funds this program.

    How to sign up for NFJP services.

    Wondering if you are eligible for NFJP services? You may be if any of these apply to you.

    • Are you authorized by the Attorney General to work in the United States, and an eligible farmworker or a dependent of an eligible farmworker?
    • Have you, your spouse, or a family member done any of the following in the past 24 months:
      • Worked in packing, picking, processing, or grading fruits or vegetables, or worked in an orchard or vineyard?
      • Worked at a fish, poultry, cattle, horse, deer, or pig farm?
      • Worked on preparing soil, planting, harvesting, transplanting, trimming, or hoeing with plants, orchards, or trees?
    • Are you authorized to work in the United States?
    • Are you enrolled in Selective Service, if applicable?

    If you answered “yes” to some of these questions, you may qualify for our services. There are many related jobs that may qualify as agricultural work.

    Contact Telamon and a staff member will personally pre-screen you to find out if you or your family member could qualify for our program.

    YOUNG ADULT PROGRAM

    Build skills that lead to success as adults.

    If you’re a youth between ages 16 and 24, Telamon can help you build skills that lead to success as adults. Our Young Adult Program offers you the resources and personal support to make good career and life decisions.

    Our program emphasizes:

    • Dropout prevention and completion of high school or its equivalent
    • Development of leadership skills and positive behaviors
    • Preparation for the world of work

    You receive an individualized plan that reflects your unique goals and needs. You get support through counseling, adult mentors, educational tutoring, group activities, work experience, and occupational skill training.

    The Young Adult Program is available in Wicomico County. The program is funded under the U.S. Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and made possible through an award from the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance.

    THE FAST PROGRAM AND ONE-STOP CAFÉ

    Get hands-on training to work in the food service industry.

    If you are looking to enter the food service industry, Telamon Maryland-Delaware offers the hands-on training to land a steady job. Our social enterprise programs called One-Stop Café and Food and Service Training (FAST), located in Salisbury, empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency.

    FAST offers a 12- to 16-week intensive full-time training program for entry-level employment, with training in an operational on-site kitchen as well as wraparound classroom instruction to prepare you for work readiness and job retention. 

    Once you enroll in the FAST program, you can operate a full-service café under the supervision of Telamon staff members, serving breakfast and lunch weekdays to paying customers in a restaurant located within Salisbury’s One-Stop job center.  

    Available in Wicomico County. The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore contributes to the funding for this social enterprise program.
